Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman and Minister of Development Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Muhammad Juanda bin Haji Abdul Rashid yesterday laid the foundation for the new mosque for RPN Kampong Lumut located near the roundabout of Jalan Malawaring and Jalan Sampariding, RPN Kampong Lumut.
Work on the mosque is expected to be completed sometime in January next year. The mosque will be buit on 5.3 acres of land located within RPN Kampong Lumut, and is estimated to cost around BND4.7 million.
The new mosque will be able to house over 2,045 congregants, with facilities such as main prayer hall, a separate women’s prayer hall, a PA system room, offices for imam and bilal, lecture rooms, a library, separate toilets and ablutions area for men and women, special needs toilets for men and women, jenazah management room, store rooms, kitchen, and parking area.
The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Mosque Affairs Officer Abdul Qayyum bin Haji Aminuddin, who also performed the call for Azan and Zikir.
The minister poured the cement into the concrete foundation of the mosque, specifically the two pillars forming the archway facing the Qiblat.
The ministers then visited an exhibition that details the current projected timeline of the proposed new mosque.
Permanent secretaries and deputy permanent secretaries at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Ministry of Development also participated.
