While many Bruneians crossed the borders to go to Miri and Kota Kinabalu in Malaysia for new year 1446 Hijrah long weekend, some opted to avoid long queues at the borders and stayed in the Sultanate, holidaying at local resorts and hotels joining leisure activities outdoor and indoor.

Suzie, a mother of three, said she brought her children to a local hotel during the break as a reward for doing well in their examinations. She said she saw many Bruneians checking-in at the hotel.

However some parents used the long weekend to help their children prepare for mid-year and mock exams that begin soon.

Hajah Aini, a mother of four, said, “My children were staying up till late at night revising for exams while their cousins were having a good time at neighbouring towns or staycation.” – Azlan Othman
