Locals jailed, fined for retaining stolen property

Two locals were sentenced to jail and ordered to settle fines respectively on Saturday after pleading guilty to retaining stolen property.

Senior Magistrate Hajah Ervy Sufitriana binti Haji Abdul Rahman ordered 22-year-old Ahmad Faizun Haziq bin Haji Sadikin to settle a BND2,000 fine, or serve two months’ jail in default of payment.

The court also handed a four months’ jail term to 38-year-old Fadly Farzuan bin Awang Muda, who holds previous theft related convictions.

Prosecutor Abdul Musawwir bin Haji Awang Mahli unearthed that Ahmad Faizun had met a friend, who gave him a stolen mobile phone. Despite knowing that it was stolen, the defendant still kept the phone.

On November 20, the defendant gave the phone to a friend whose phone was missing.

The mobile phone owner realised that the phone had gone missing, lodged a police report and led to the defendant’s arrest.

Fadly Farzuan received a stolen mobile phone from a friend in exchange for drugs.

Fadly Farzuan told his girlfriend to keep the mobile phone.

The mobile phone owner lodged a police report regarding his mobile phone, leading to the defendants’ arrest on November 27, and the recovery of the phone from his girlfriend’s house. – Fadley Faisal
