A Day of Action MMPB 2024 programme themed ‘A Drop of Hope, A Million Smiles’ concluded, leaving a meaningful and lasting impact on the Bajau Darat and Bajau Laut (Pa’lauh) communities of Mabul Island, Sabah.

Organised in conjunction with the Day of Action under Brunei’s Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) and with support from Team Scuba Buddy, Mabul, the initiative reflected Brunei’s commitment to humanity and regional solidarity.

Led by five MMPB volunteers, including a representative from Mike & Mesh Barber, the programme focused on promoting education, cultural appreciation, and community well-being for marginalised Bajau communities. Highlights of the initiative included tazkirah and Al-Quran recitation at Surau Nur Rezky; traditional games such as lompat kaki empat, konda-kondi and laga guli; haircut services by Mike & Mesh Barber’s Mohd Syukri bin Haji Mohd Kamel; gift distribution and seaweed farming insights; hygiene education for Bajau Laut children; and basic first aid awareness for children.

Project Director Hajah Noor Monasalieana @ Suzie binti Haji Mohd Salleh said, “This project demonstrates Brunei’s commitment to compassion and unity. The Bajau communities share the same hopes and dreams as us.

“Through this initiative, we not only provide aid but also foster meaningful connections and enhance Brunei’s role in promoting regional solidarity and human kindness,” she said.
