Local talents unveiled as creativity comes to light

Challenges should be embraced to push the boundaries of creativity, allowing passion to guide towards endless possibilities, said Director of ‘Spectrum 2024: Unveil’ Mohammad Apandi bin Abdul Razak.

He said this in his welcoming remarks, addressing final year Design and Creative Industries (DCI) programme students under the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) at Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) at the launching ceremony of the annual art exhibition ‘Spectrum 2024: Unveil’ at UBD Chancellor Hall yesterday. Some 54 art projects showcasing the students’ talent and creativity are on display.

Mohammad Apandi added, “This year’s exhibition is particularly special as the theme ‘Unveil’ serves as a guiding light, symbolising the unveiling of the boundless potential that resides within each and every one of our students.”

He said he was honoured to have been appointed as the Director of ‘Spectrum 2024: Unveil’.

“I must acknowledge that the exhibition wouldn’t have come to fruition without the collaborative efforts of an exceptional team. I express my gratitude to co-director Halim Ashari. Together with our excos, the heads of committees and every single member of our team, we worked tirelessly to make this exhibition a reality.”

Nine clusters from 54 students representing DCI for this year’s exhibition include fine arts, sculpture and installation, product design, game development, digital art and technology, film and media production, publication, fashion design and photography. Following the launch, the guest of honour UBD Vice-Chancellor Dr Hazri bin Haji Kifle, presented certificates of appreciation to sponsors and toured the exhibition, while speaking to the final year students on their projects.

Among the projects, were Faud Danny’s ‘JiJi’s Zoetrope’ which is a 3D Zoetrope project that brought to life the mischievous behaviour of a ginger cat, ‘Dang Ambun’s Curse’ by Haziqah Othman, a pyrography on wood project showcasing Bruneian folklore and ‘Blossom’ by Syaza Hamani, a children’s book telling the story of a young kid trying to grow a garden as majestic as her grandmother’s.

The art exhibition held from April 17 to May 17 is open every Tuesday to Sunday from 9am – 5pm and Fridays, 2pm – 6pm. – James Kon
