Local students join professional film project in Sabah

Three students from Mahakarya Institute of the Arts Asia had the opportunity to work as crew members of a professional film project shot in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah recently.

Zulfadli Madali, Farrah Majid and Nadya Ebnu were assigned to different departments ranging from camera assistant to continuity supervisor depending on their skill sets.

The 10-day Malaysian production of Tarik Tali: a Harvest Festival-themed mockumentary, produced by Vinoun Films will be broadcast on NorthborneoTV social media platforms in May 2024.

“It was a great learning experience. I was fortunate to be cast in a supporting role because I had acted in the Bruneian produced sit-com Babu-Nya,” Farrah said. The story of tarik tali (Tug of War) follows two contrasting teams led by fitness enthusiast Nigel and journalist Phil as they train for the emotionally charged Tarik Tali, a traditional sports version of tug of war.

The Malaysian filmmakers embraced an experimental approach to storytelling and production.
