Brunei Darussalam powerlifting athletes did the country proud after bagging a flurry of medals in the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) Commonwealth Championships at the Dew Drops Convention Centre in Auckland, New Zealand.
Duratul Ain Haji Durhan bagged four gold medals in the women’s under-43kg junior (under-23) category, including squat (90kg), bench press (45kg) and deadlift (122.5kg).
Her efforts brought an overall total of 257.7 points and another gold medal in her collection.
Meanwhile, Mateen Amirrudin claimed four bronze medals in the men’s under-59kg junior (under-23) category including squat (145kg), bench press (70kg) and deadlift (190kg).
The battle for bronze for the overall points tally slid back and forth between Brunei Darussalam and Northern Ireland, which eventually came in the favour of the former.
Hashilah Husaimee Ahmad was the other athlete representing the Sultanate. She managed a total of 142.5kg in squat, 85kg in bench press, 162.5kg in deadlift, which brought a total of 390.5kg in the women’s under-76kg open category.
