The Magistrates’ Court yesterday sentenced a 23-year-old local man to two months’ imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to criminal trespass.
Prosecutor Ahmad bin Abdullah revealed that Awangku Alinor Azmi bin Pengiran Omarali, employed as a security guard at Pulau Muara Besar, committed the offence on November 22, at about 6pm.
The court heard that the defendant arrived at a staff house at Kampong Salambigar, Jalan Muara, Berakas ‘B’, intending to borrow money from a resident. Seeing the house was empty, he went to the back, forcefully opened a window by removing a green security net, and entered the premises.
The defendant moved from room to room but was caught by one of the residents, prompting him to flee. He commandeered a bicycle at a nearby bus station, cycled back to his parked car, and drove off, ignoring several people near the vehicle.
Police investigations revealed that the victim, heard a loud sound and discovered the damaged security net. Upon searching the area, his workers found the defendant’s car, containing identification and bank cards, which were photographed for evidence.
