A 34-year-old local man was fined BND20,000 after he pleaded guilty to attempting to smuggle various vape products.
Asnawi bin Pungut would have to serve 13 months if he fails to pay the fine.
The charges were brought against the defendant following an incident on February 23, at the Sungai Tujoh Control Post in Kuala Belait, where customs officers seized 156 vape pods and one bottle of vape juice he smuggled into the country without proper authorisation.
Acting Senior Magistrate Dewi Norlelawati binti Haji Abdul Hamid ordered the vape products destroyed. The defendant’s vehicle and a mobile phone involved in the case will be returned to him. – Fadley Faisal
