The Magistrate’s Court recently handed a BND10,000 fine to a 47-year-old local man for possessing prohibited cigarettes and alcohol.
Magistrate Nur Eleana binti Dato Paduka Hj Hairol Arni ordered Rodney Kaesberry to serve 10 months’ jail in default of fine payment.
According to the Customs prosecutor, the offence occurred on March 5, at 10.05pm, when officers from the Royal Customs and Excise Department (RCED) inspected the defendant on arrival at the Kuala Lurah Control Post. They discovered three cartons of various cigarette brands and two bottles of assorted alcoholic beverages without declarations.
He pleaded guilty to both charges.
The court ordered the confiscated items to be forfeited to the government for destruction. – Fadley Faisal
