Local man committed to High Court for murder trial

Senior Magistrate Azrimah binti Abdul Rahman on Saturday committed 26-year-old local Abdul Malik Fazil bin Mohamed to the High Court for a trial on a murder charge.

The court in delivering ruling on a preliminary inquiry, found that Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Fitri Kiprawi and Prosecutor Abdul Mussawir bin Haji Mahli have adduced sufficient evidence to commit Abdul Malik Fazil to the High Court for the murder charge.

The charge alleges the defendant of having murdered Malaysian national Aaron Tan Teck Guan sometime between July 18 and 20, 2021.

The charge under Section 302, Chapter 22 of the Penal Code, carries the death penalty.

The case will be remitted to the High Court for hearing.

The defendant was arrested on July 29, 2021. He was charged with murder on July 31 of the same year. – Fadley Faisal
