A 55-year-old local was sentenced to four months’ jail after he pleaded guilty to shoplifting on Saturday.
Magistrate Syaffina binti Shahif heard from Prosecutor Nurul Husna binti Haji Abidin that the defendant, Rahman bin Tuah, had sent his children off to religious school at 1pm on February 15.
He made his way to a convenience shop in Kiarong to buy a drink.
Upon entering the shop, he saw a stack of chocolate bars and took 14 of them worth BND81.20 and left.
He went around his neighbourhood, door-to-door, and sold the chocolate candy bars for BND1 each. He spent the BND14 on his personal needs.
Meanwhile a sales assistant of the convenience shop, who had just arranged the chocolate candy bars before the defendant stole them, realised that a stack was missing.
The staff and owner checked the CCTV, found footage of the defendant in action and lodged a police report leading to the defendant’s arrest.
