Brunei Darussalam Go Association’s Zhao Zhengbo won three of seven matches to achieve the ranking of 32 out of 46 at the 43rd World Amateur Go Championship in Shenzhen, China recently.
Zhao said, “It was an honour to represent Brunei in the prestigious event and I enjoyed playing against opponents from different countries.”
He added, “I learned a lot from the matches and improved my skills for future competitions.”
The championship, organised by International Go Federation, saw South Korea’s Kim Jung-Seon emerging as the champion. China’s Yang Chukun and Chinese Taipei’s Lai Yucheng were first and second runners-up.
The Brunei Darussalam Go Association will compete in next year’s World Amateur Go Championship in Tokyo, Japan in May. The association will be organising qualifying matches in March 2024. – James Kon
