Local jailed after threatening woman with machete and umbrella

Aili Iskandar bin Haji Alias, a 53-year-old local man, was sentenced to one year and four months’ jail time after threatening a woman with a machete and an umbrella.

The defendant pleaded guilty to assault and weapons possession charges in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Acting Senior Magistrate Dewi Norlelawati binti Haji Abdul Hamid did not impose corporal punishment on Aili Iskandar due to his age.

Prosecutor Hajah Siti Mu’izzah binti Haji Sabli revealed that on March 22, at about 9pm, the defendant saw a Filipino woman with several others feeding stray dogs while he was driving to a tailor shop in Lumut.

The defendant stopped his vehicle to warn the group against feeding stray dogs.

The women responded, which angered the defendant who then left his vehicle to fetch a machete from the boot, and pointed it at her.

He then returned the machete to the boot of the car.

However, the woman was still responding to the defendant, who then took an umbrella from the boot of his car and pointed it at the woman, while warning her that he will report the matter to the village head and the police. He then drove off.

The woman immediately called her friend and informed her of the incident, while also sharing a video recording of the defendant pointing the machete and umbrella at her.

Upon seeing the video, the friend called 993 to lodge a police report.

Not long after, while the woman was still tending to the stray dogs, the defendant returned with the village head and several others. The defendant informed them that the woman was feeding the stray dogs and she refused to listen to him.

Fearing escalation, both the woman and the defendant were told to report to the police station, where an investigation led to the court case. – Fadley Faisal
