In recognising the support of Brunei importers in bringing in Indonesian products to the Sultanate, the Indonesian Embassy in Brunei Darussalam presented awards to five importers during the Indonesian Embassy Importer Award Night on Thursday.

Indonesian Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Dr Sujatmiko presented awards to H Sky Trading Company and Syarikat Perniagaan Malar Setia for the Platinum Category Award, Hui Huang Enterprise and Shiv Trading Company for the Silver Category Award and Bintang Ria Sdn Bhd for the Bronze Category Award.

“We present the awards as a token of appreciation to Brunei companies importing Indonesian products. Thanks to the businesses, trade volume between the two countries continues to increase every year, including in the last three years despite the global economic slowdown,” said Dr Sujatmiko.

The ambassador revealed that the Importer Award Night coincided with the momentum of the annual Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI), which began on October 19.

Some Bruneian businessmen and businesswomen present visited Jakarta to attend the event. Dr Sujatmiko hoped that businesses attending the night’s event will benefit from attending the TEI, in getting new partners or new potential products to be marketed in Brunei.

The TEI will run virtually until December 19.

Indonesia-Brunei bilateral trade has shown an increasing trend in the last four years where last year, the trade value between the two countries was recorded at USD374.27 million, an 83-per-cent increase from 2020.

The value of Indonesia’s non-oil and gas exports to Brunei since 2019 has also increased every year and fast moving consumer goods are one of Brunei’s largest import categories from Indonesia.

There are four categories of awards based on the annual purchase of Indonesian products: Platinum for imports over USD4.5 million; Gold for imports in the range of USD3 to USD4.5 million; Silver for USD1.5 to USD3 million worth of imports; and Bronze for import values between USD1 and USD1.5 million.
