Local, Hong Kong universities ink agreement

Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) attended the launch of Hong Kong (HK) Tech 300 Southeast Asia Startup competition hosted by City University of Hong Kong (CityU) at the Hilton Hotel in Kuala Lumpur recently.

The event also saw a signing ceremony for a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between CityU and UBD.

UBD Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Innovation and Enterprise) Professor Dr Mohammad Ayub Sadiq @ Lin Naing signed on behalf of the university witnessed by Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Global Affairs) Dr Joyce Teo Siew Yean.

CityU was represented by Vice President (Research and Technology) Professor Michael Yang Mengsu and witnessed by Vice President (Administration) Sunny Lee Wai-Kwong.

CityU President and University Distinguished Professor Way Kuo, Higher Education Adviser to Malaysian Minister of Higher Education Emeritus Professor Dato Dr Morshidi Sirat and senior officers from Universiti Malaya, Universiti Putra Malaysia, Chulalongkorn University, Xiamen University Malaysia, Malaysia-China Business Council and Chambers, Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (SIDEC) were also present.

The MoU serves as a framework for both universities, including Universiti Malaya and Chulalongkorn University, to collaborate in the areas of technology transfer and commercialisation, business matching, co-investment, local support and coaching as well as facilities through the HK Tech 300 Southeast Asia Startup Competition. It demonstrates UBD’s commitment to innovation and an enterprising generation.

The competition saw 14 startups showcasing their technological ideas spanning from biotechnology products to artificial intelligence (AI) applications, sustainable solutions to financial technology (fintech). The final round of the competition will be announced in November.
