The Magistrate’s Court ordered a local to settle a BND17,300 fine after he pleaded guilty to a charge of possessing smuggled alcoholic beverages yesterday.
Mohd Nasrulhafiz bin Mohaimin, 26, would have to serve 13 months’ jail in default of payment of the fine.
Magistrate Syaffina binti Shahif heard from the customs prosecutor that the defendant was driving when he crossed paths with the Temburong Police at Kampong Sungai Besar near the Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Bridge at 8.50pm on August 18, 2021. The defendant fled and was pursued by the police before getting caught and arrested.
The police inspected the defendant’s car and unearthed 108 bottles of liquor.
The court ordered for the seized contraband to be destroyed.
