Local fitness enthusiasts enjoy podium finish in Singapore meet

Local fitness enthusiasts did the country proud after securing a podium finish in Hyrox Singapore at the Singapore National Stadium last weekend.

The men’s team labelled Team Endura comprising Raimi Azmansham, Apis Kipli, Abdul Malik Azmansham and Shahassanal Izzat finished third in the men’s relay category after clocking a time of 1:11.51.

The podium winners are active members of Peak Training Club and are trained by coach Nuai Abdul Ghaffar, who also participated in the individual men’s open. He also coaches another female team from Brunei, Lagree Barbellas, led by Feby Latip.

Team Endura member Raimi Azmansham said, “Alhamdulillah, I’m more than satisfied with our results. As Hyrox is a world series of fitness racing, being on a podium with other world elite athletes is a big achievement for us.”

He continued, “We’ve been intensely training together for almost seven months with twice-a-day training sessions, seven days a week focusing both on running (programmed by Abdul Malik), functional fitness and CrossFit training (coached by Nuai).

“Before the race, we strategised with team members to assign the workout stations according to their strengths. And without the right mindset, they would not be able to finish strong.”

He concluded, “I have given a pep talk to have self-belief in what they have endured in all the intense training and to prove no one but themselves that we can be as the same level of elite athletes.”

Raimi and Apis Kipli, returning athletes who raced in Hong Kong in May, were amazed with the race venue, the extraordinaire Singapore National Stadium. The Team Endura members also joined the men’s doubles during the morning session.

The team has also set their immediate sights to the next race and plans to resume training two days after the race. They normally train at Peak Performance and Helmi Abdullah Fitness.

The quartet of Jose Reales, Eugene Neo, Ludovic Guyonvarch and Taufik Batisah won top place after finishing in a time of 1:03:25, while the team comprising Dylan Ong, Bryan Yap, Nicholas Chan and Jian Hong Teng came second with a time of 1:08:40.
