Local fined for being public nuisance

A 36-year-old local man was fined BND1,500 by the Magistrate’s Court yesterday after he pleaded guilty to a charge of being a nuisance to the public in a state of intoxication.

Adi Farid Riswandi bin Idris was ordered by Magistrate Nur Eleana binti Dato Seri Paduka Haji Hairol Arni to serve six months’ jail in default of payment of the fine.

Prosecutor Nurulatikah binti Haji Husaini revealed in court that the defendant had caused annoyance to vendors and customers at a business premise at the Gadong Night Market at 11pm on November 11.

Magistrate Nur Eleana further heard that the defendant was loitering in the area and carrying a bottle of liquor.

A member of the night market spotted the defendant and lodged a police report at the Gadong post, leading to him being questioned on site. The defendant asked a member of the night market who had filed the police report.

The victim told the defendant off and urged him not to harrass people.

The defendant became angry, pressed the bottle of liquor on the victim’s forehead, and pushed the victim using his other hand.

Witnessing the incident, the police arrested the defendant. – Fadley Faisal
