A local woman, Zuraiyati binti Haji Zainal, was fined BND900 for an offence under the Excise Order 2006 for possessing 135.8 kilogrammes of chicken tails and 9.2 kilogrammes of raw beef with dubious origins in her home.

This was announced by the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) yesterday following an integrated operation by enforcement officers from the Halal Food Control Division in the Syariah Affairs Department and the Royal Customs and Excise Department at a house in Kampong Kilanas.

MoRA reminded retailers that their meat supply should be from legitimate suppliers such as local slaughterhouses with halal and slaughter certificate as well as supply licence or importers with halal import permit from the Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB).

Those with information or complaints about halal meat violations can contact the Syariah Affairs Department through the Halal Food Control Division by calling 7166222 or head to the division’s offices in each district.
