Local filmmaker Abdul Zainidi attended the Berlinale Talents Summit in Berlin, Germany recently.
The director of local films, The Worm and The Widow and Still Vanishing Children is the first Bruneian director to be selected by the Berlinale Talents Summit selection committee for the event.
Abdul Zainidi was chosen from over 3,832 applicants from 131 countries and is one of the 202 selected emerging filmmakers to attend the summit to undergo training and build networking.
Abdul Zainidi in an interview, said, “It is a very proud moment to be here representing Brunei Darussalam.”
He added, “I am also at the summit for my latest project called Garipap, a murder mystery film and hoping to find international cooperation. The film will definitely be shot in Brunei. I met many people and learnt much. The networking can help foster future collaborations.”
Among those attending the summit were Lupita Nyong’o, Martin Scorsese, Ira Sachs, Tsai Ming-liang, Mati Diop, Abderrahmane Sissako and Peaches. Berlinale Talents Summit is a platform to connect people globally and share ideas. – James Kon
