Local designer shines at Indonesia Fashion Week

Brunei fashion made a splash at the recently concluded Indonesia Fashion Week (IFW) in Jakarta.

The Sultanate participated in IFW for the first time through FARED & FOF led by Pengiran Abdul Farid bin Pengiran Idrus.

Pengiran Abdul Farid, leading a team of seven, showcased Bruneian fashion with a fusion of modern and traditional design themed ‘Keindahan Seni, Adat & Budaya, Walaupun Melintasi Waktu’. Nine designs were shown on the runway.

Pengiran Abdul Farid said the team was overwhelmed by the scale of IFW featuring top Indonesian models, 300 local and international designers as well as daily attendance of 2,000 guests. He said the guests were asking where FARED & FOF are from with many thinking the team is Indonesian since they speak the Malay language.

IFW attendees remarked that Pengiran Abdul Farid’s designs are simple yet bold.

The Bruneian designer said his works were well-received evident by mobile phone recordings and camera flashed that can be seen during the catwalk.

Pengiran Abdul Farid said he met with several Indonesian designers, adding that IFW is a good networking platform as well as an event to promote Brunei fashion.

With the recent success, the organiser has offered the team to join as international designers with a bigger slot to show more pieces. – James Kon
