Local bodybuilders compete in Batam meet

Two local bodybuilders are currently representing the country in the 17th South East Asian Body Building and Physiques Sports Championships in Batam, Indonesia which concludes tomorrow.

Haji Ibrahim bin Haji Latif and Mohammad Zulkarnine bin Haji Ahmad joined the Men’s Bodybuilding 65kg and Men’s Athletic Physique (up to 167cm) events, respectively.

It marked the country’s second participation following their inaugural entry in Myanmar.

Brunei secured the gold medal and emerged Champions of Champions in the overall category during their previous appearance.

Brunei Darussalam Bodybuilding and Physique Association President Mohamed Rahemi bin Haji Abdul Manaf said that appropriate training had been made for three months prior to the competition.

He also added that a good diet and sufficient rest are important to ensure a good preparation in building towards a competition.

Asked if there was a trainer to help guide the participants, he said that they were trained by their friends who boast experience in bodybuilding.

The president also expressed the association’s hopes to win medals and called enthusiasts to join competitions such as this and represent the country on the international stage. He also thanked the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports for the support to the association to attend the Electoral Congress on the sidelines of the 17th South East Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Championships as well as sponsors.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Rahemi has been appointed as the new vice president and Rudy bin Ahmad as a board member of the South East Asian Bodybuilding and Physiques Sports Federation.
