Local art exhibition reflects Brunei’s life journey

The Museums Department through the Brunei Energy Hub Dermaga Diraja held a ‘Calls of the Past and Present’ exhibition by Huifong Ng as the invited solo artist at the Brunei Energy Hub Dermaga Diraja yesterday.

In an effort to give exposure to local artists showcasing their talent as well as a show of support to art enthusiasts from within and outside the nation, 33 paintings were exhibited.The genre for the exhibition is contemporary Chinese ink painting.

Deputy Permanent Secretary (Culture) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) Dr Siti Norkhalbi binti Haji Wahsalfelah was present at the event.

The exhibition takes visitors to immerse into the life journey of the Bruneian community when the country began to prosper during the 1950s until now. Among the significant paintings is the painting of Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam declaring the independence of Brunei Darussalam in 1984. In her welcoming remarks, Huifong Ng touched on the meaning of the ‘Call of the Past and Present‘.

The interaction between visitors and the paintings is expected to have an impact about the country’s cultural heritage and history. A painting depicting the religious ceremony in conjunction with the birthday celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was donated to the MCYS by Huifong Ng during the launching ceremony.
