Litterbugs slapped with fines

Five individuals and six companies have been slapped with compound fines amounting to a total of BND4,100 by the Law Enforcement Unit of the Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB) Municipal Department for violation of Section 12 chapter of the Miscellaneous Offences Act (Amendment) 2021, Chapter 30 for littering public areas.

They are required to settle the fines within seven days and failure to do so will result in the case being brought to court.

If found guilty, the individual will be imposed a fine between BND1,000 and BND3,000 for the first offence and betweenBND3,000 and BND9,000, imprisonment of no more than six months, or both, for subsequent offences.

Meanwhile, any corporate body that fails to settle the fine will be brought to court and face a fine between BND2,000 and BND10,000 for the first offence and a fine between BND10,000 and BND30,000, imprisonment of no more than 12 months, or both, for subsequent offences.

The Law Enforcement Unit of the BSB Municipal Department also warned against disposing rubbish in public areas.
