The Institute for Biodiversity and Environmental Research (IBER), Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) launched the ‘Nature Classroom’ programme at the UBD Botanical Research Centre (UBD BRC) and IBER’s laboratory yesterday to foster environmental awareness and education,
The inaugural event saw 20 students from Lambak Kanan Primary School engaging actively and also expanding upon the pilot programme conducted earlier this year. The three-hour programme marked a significant step towards bringing Brunei’s rich biodiversity to the forefront of primary school education.
Students immersed themselves in a learning experience, exploring plant and invertebrate diversity through engaging hands-on activities. The programme blended theoretical knowledge with practical applications, providing a holistic understanding of the local biodiversity. The programme’s goal was to instill a sense of appreciation and responsibility for the environment in the younger generation and nurture a generation of environmentally conscious citizens.
The programme also showcased the potential of the ‘Nature Classroom’ in bridging the gap between traditional classroom learning and real-world environmental exploration.
