The opening ceremony for the 19th session of the Legislative Council (LegCo) meeting has been scheduled for March 2 at the Legislative Council building.
His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam will officiate the opening ceremony, according to a statement by the Department of Councils of State of the Prime Minister’s Office.
LegCo Speaker Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib will chair the session assisted by Clerk to the LegCo Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Jaya Dato Paduka Haji Judin bin Haji Asar and Deputy Clerk to the LegCo Rose Aminah binti Haji Ismail. The LegCo meeting will discuss and approve the 2023 Supply Bill for 2023/2024, which will go through three stages before being passed and gazetted for use starting April 1.
The session is entering its 19th year since its establishment in 2004 and continues to be a platform for LegCo members to act as the voice of the people to highlight national issues and deliberate strategic matters as well as review and contribute ideas to government policies for the benefit and the well-being of the people and the country.
Some 34 LegCo members, comprising ex-officio members, people bestowed with titles, people with achievements and appointed representatives from the districts, will participate in the annual event.
Public members can follow the daily sessions through RTB Perdana and RTB Sukmaindera at 9pm for the morning session and 10.50pm for the afternoon session.
