Sixteen Legislative Council (LegCo) members visited the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI) in Anggerek Desa yesterday.
The LegCo members gained a deeper understanding of AITI’s key roles and its approaches to issues involving the regulatory oversight of the telecommunications and postal sectors, management of the national radio frequency spectrum and the development of the information and communication technology (ICT) industry in the Sultanate.
The programme began with an introduction by AITI Chief Executive Ir Haji Jailani bin Haji Buntar, where he shared the position and landscape of the ICT sector, as well as the direction and challenges in regulating and developing the infommuncation sector.
The LegCo members also visited an exhibition and got a closer look at AITI’s initiatives such as the digital capacity development programmes, content regulation and cable theft awareness programmes.
The delegation also observed the equipment used in monitoring telecommunication services.
The visit marked the first meeting between LegCo members and AITI serving as a platform to share information about AITI’s achievement and raise awareness of its role in achieving the goal of transforming Brunei into a smart nation. – Rokiah Mahmud
