LegCo members visit agriculture sites

Legislative Council (LegCo) members visited an abattoir and two farms in the Tutong and Brunei-Muara districts yesterday as part of an ongoing programme to gain an overview of the country’s agriculture sector.

Yesterday, the LegCo members visited Syarikat PDS Abattoir Sdn Bhd located at the Batang Mitus Agricultural Development Area (KKP). The company is a government-linked company under Darussalam Assets Sdn Bhd.

According to the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT), the LegCo members toured the company’s facilities for livestock breeding, slaughtering, processing and cold storage.

Next, LegCo members proceeded to the Mori Farm at the KPP Sinaut.

The eight-hectare farm contains plantations of Moringa oleifera (horseradish tree), pisang raja, mint, tarragon, serai and rosella.

Finally, the LegCo members visited the Springhill Development Enterprise farm at the KPP Tungku A. The farm grows vegetables, such as lettuce, pak choy, kacang bindir and kangkong, through aquaponics and fertigation.

Throughout the visit, the LegCo members were given information on production numbers, techniques and systems used in the agriculture sector. Previous visits were took place on October 11, October 18 and November 7. – James Kon
