Learning skills beyond classroom

“At Petronas, we believe in improving the lives of the communities and this programme helps to empower youth with greater self-esteem and social-emotional skills which are vital to pave their ways ahead as future leaders.

“As such, Petronas Carigali Brunei Ltd (PCBL) decided to hold the second PETRONAS School of Life Programme this year after witnessing significant changes in the lives of those attended last year,” said PCBL Country Head Mohd Johan Ariff bin Mohd Supian during the launching of the second programme at the Mitsubishi Hall of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) yesterday.

The programme, officiated by Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education Dr Haji Azman bin Ahmad, is a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative by PCBL.

High Commissioner of Malaysia to Brunei Darussalam Dato’ Raja Reza bin Raja Zaib Shah; Permanent Secretary (Youth) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Haji Zakaria bin Haji Serudin; Acting Permanent Secretary of the Department of Energy at the Prime Minister’s Office Pengiran Haji Jamra Weira bin Pengiran Haji Petra and the Head of the Institutions attended.

Programme curator and Curious Mind founder Shaun Hoon delivered the introduction.

The programme will run until November 25 comprising 20 topics, divided into five key modules including change and adaptation, career, community and environment, entrepreneurship and communications. It will be conducted at UBD, Universiti Teknologi Brunei, Institute of Brunei Technical Education, Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali and Politeknik Brunei.

Some 500 youth will learn essential life skills beyond the classroom.
