Over 60 students and 22 teachers from Belait District’s rural areas joined an outreach programme organised by Seria Energy Lab (SEL) at Merangking Primary School on November 23.
The initiative, featuring demonstrations, performances and exhibitions, was organised in collaboration with Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP) and the Ministry of Education.
The programme, ‘Suiknya Sains’, was organised to enhance the students’ knowledge of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) education through interactive activities. The participating students were from Merangking Primary School, Labi Primary School, Datu Maharaja Setia Dian Primary School and Melilas Primary School.
The event began with a ‘Science Wizardy’ show by SEL staff featuring a demonstration and performance featuring a combination of science, art and education. The show ended with a quiz and prize presentation to the participating students.
The outreach programme continued with students visiting exhibitions including a robotics showcase where the students controlled a robot to perform simple tasks. They also learnt science in the themes of sound, sight, materials and forces with hands-on activities.
The SEL centre expressed hope that the learning experience would help rouse the students’ curiosity in the different sciences. – Daniel Lim
