School administrators leadership is indispensable in advancing science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics (STEAM) education in the classrooms, Minister of Education Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh said.
Science Technology and Environment Partnership Centre and the Entrepreneurship Innovation Centre are developing STEAM Competency Rubrics to create learning opportunities by integrating multiple disciplines to encourage adaptability and resilience in learners’ mindset to shape the future for a purposeful life, the minister said at the opening ceremony of the 6th School Leaders Convention 2024 in Jerudong yesterday.
The minister added that the rubrics will be able to reflect STEAM education’s approach to problems that is holistic and draws upon knowledge from multiple fields to devise innovative solutions.
Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah said, “By fostering a culture of innovation, providing support and resources as well as cultivating meaningful partnerships, school leaders can ensure that every student has the opportunity to develop critical thinking, creativity and problem-solving skills to face the challenges of tomorrow, and also lead us toward a brighter, more inclusive future.
“I look forward to our school leaders’ participation in today’s workshop to contribute to the STEAM Competency Rubrics.”
Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah said, “Over the past decade alone, we have seen groundbreaking advancements in technology and engineering marvels that reshape our infrastructure, scientific discoveries that deepen our understanding of the universe and artistic expressions that enrich our cultural tapestry.
“It is imperative that our education system adapts to these changes and prepares our students to thrive in this dynamic landscape.”
The minister added, “The integration of STEAM is a powerful catalyst for innovation and progress. Hence, the demand for our learners to be proficient in STEAM has steadily increased.
