Brunei’s latest fast food chain Shack Side, known for its freshly made burgers, fried chicken and smoothies, officially opened at Ground Floor of Sufri Complex, Batu Satu yesterday.

Partners Sheikh Said Mohd Said Kassim, Derek Chung Boon Hwa and Soon Kian Leong attended the unveiling ceremony.

The business started four years ago when Sheikh Said started his burger business at home and pop up events. Sheikh Said shared his passion with the Bulletin on building his business into an international brand. “We aim to franchise Shack Side, which is a twist on my name, Sheikh Said. We want to be the newest fast food chain in Brunei and expand internationally.”

He added, “Our burgers combine Western style with local flavours. We serve everything in paper bags for convenience, whether customers dine in or take away. All our staff, from the management to the crew, are local.”

The 23-year-old entrepreneur shared his plans, “We aim to open a branch in Malaysia soon, franchise and grow the brand. We want to put Brunei on the map.”

He added, “I want the people to know Shack Side started in the Sultanate. Many franchises are thriving here and we see opportunities for growth. It’s not easy, but it’s doable. We also hope to open another branch next year, depending on the response.” – James Kon
