The family of late Pehin Datu Temenggong Dato Seri Paduka Lim Teck Hoo continued his legacy of helping Chinese education and culture in Brunei Darussalam yesterday with the presentation of donations to eight Chinese schools in the Sultanate and the Brunei Chinese Chess Association.

The late Pehin Datu Temenggong Dato Seri Paduka Lim Teck Hoo’s sons, Dato Paduka Lim Beng Thai, Lim Beng Cheng and Lim Ming Kiat presented a total of BND50,000 to eight Chinese schools and BND2,000 to the Brunei Chinese Chess Association.

Chung Hwa Middle School Bandar Seri Begawan (CHMS BSB) received BND20,000; Chung Ching Middle School (CCMS) Seria and Chung Hua Middle School Kuala Belait (CHMS KB) received BND10,000 each; Chung Hwa School Labi (CHS Labi), Chung Lian School Sungai Liang (CLS Sungai Liang), Chung Hwa School Tutong (CHS Tutong), Chung Hwa School Kiudang (CHS Kiudang) and Pai Yuek School Temburong (PYS Temburong) received BND2,000 each.

Lim Ming Kiat said, “To help Brunei Chinese schools develop, my father established the Chinese school development and academic excellence scholarship in 1996 which continued for 27 years. Every year, more than BND50,000 is allocated to promote Chinese culture and improve the facilities of Chinese schools like the learning environment and improving teaching conditions to benefit all students.

“In a few more days, CHMS BSB will celebrate its 100th anniversary. This is a significant celebration for the local Chinese community. My father devoted his whole life to promote and further Chinese education. He was the chairman of CHMS BSB for over 40 years and the school will always be in his mind. I remember my father still thinking about CHMS BSB before he passed away.

“The COVID-19 pandemic affected the world, including schools. Therefore, Chinese schools in the country should promote the use of innovative education to meet the needs of the new era, which also plays an important role in nurturing students’ quality and overall development.”

On behalf of the recipients, CHMS KB Executive Chairman Tan Yong Kui conveyed gratitude to the late Pehin Datu Temenggong Dato Seri Paduka Lim Teck Hoo and his family.
