The Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation Regional Centre for Vocational and Technical Education and Training (SEAMEO Voctech) is training 19 participants from Laos on applying student-centred teaching-learning methodologies.

The training is being held virtually until tomorrow.

SEAMEO Voctech Centre Director Alias bin Haji Abu Bakar, Laos Ministry of Education and Sport’s Deputy Director General of TVE Department Mr Saykham Phanthavong and programme facilitator Noorhayati Cynthia binti Abdullah attended the opening ceremony yesterday.

The three-day course sees participation of education officers, technical teachers and staff. It is aimed at providing them a deeper understanding of student-centred teaching-learning methodologies in a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) environment.

The centre director said student-centred activities are effective learning tools to uncover the students’ potentials and skills to develop proactive and productive individuals, adding that student-centred teaching-learning methodologies not only offer more relevant activities to the students but also help them to perform better in school and at the workplace.

With student-centred teaching-learning methodologies, teachers will be able to conduct structured and effective learning activities for a more holistic learning approach that will enhance the learners’ capabilities and skills while at the same time encourage autonomous learning.
