Brunei Darussalam Standards and Accreditation Centre (BDSAC) Acting Director Dayangku Hajah Nadiah Annasyitah binti Pengiran DP Haji Abu Bakar stressed the importance of reliable laboratory results in ensuring accurate diagnoses and positive clinical outcomes.
She highlighted the need for medical laboratories to adopt robust quality management systems to mitigate risks and maintain high standards.
“The ISO 15189:2022 standard strengthens laboratories’ technical competence, ensuring the delivery of accurate and reliable results for clients and stakeholders,” she said during a workshop on ISO 15189:2022 at a hotel in Kampong Gadong hosted by BDSAC under the Ministry of Finance and Economy in collaboration with the Department of Standards Malaysia (DSM) at the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry recently.
DSM Senior Principal Assistant Director of Accreditation Fariza Wan Abdullah who facilitated the workshop, provided an in-depth overview of ISO 15189:2022, focusing on key aspects such as non-conformity management, document control, internal audits, risk-based thinking, measurement uncertainty, and continuous improvement. Held in conjunction with World Accreditation Day 2024, the workshop aimed to encourage local medical testing laboratories to adopt quality management systems in line with the ISO 15189:2022 standard. World Accreditation Day, observed annually on June 6, was established by the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) to highlight the importance of accreditation.
This year’s theme, ‘Accreditation: Empowering Tomorrow and Shaping the Future’, underscores the role of accreditation in fostering progress.
The three-day workshop was attended by 30 participants from conformity assessment bodies (CABs) registered with BDSAC, representing both government and private agencies.
The event concluded with a certificate presentation to the participants. – James Kon
