The Government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, through the Department of Economic Planning and Statistics (JPES) at the Ministry of Finance and Economy will be conducting the Labour Force Survey (LFS) 2023 from October 16 to November 12.

The purpose of the LFS 2023 is to collect information on the size, structure, distribution and characteristics of the labour force, employment and other economic characteristics of the population to be used as input for planning, research and policy-making.

The LFS 2023 will involve 3,200 households. To facilitate the interview process, it will be conducted using the computer-assisted personal interview (CAPI) approach where survey officers will be using tablets during face-to-face interview of selected households.

The heads of selected households are required to cooperate by making advance preparation of documents, such as the identity card number of each household member, and personal information including education and employment.

Selected households are advised to make sure that the survey officers have been officially appointed by the JPES by checking their passes, appointment letters, identity cards and JPES vests.

The LFS 2023 is conducted under the Statistics Act of the Laws of Brunei Darussalam. Information from participating households will be kept confidential and used for statistical purposes only. In pursuant to Section 9 of the Statistics Act, failure to provide required information or the furnishing of false particulars is an offence carrying a penalty of BND4,000 fine.
