The Labour Department conducted several operations recently.
Operasi Siaga 64/2024 on March 25 targeting a workers’ housing in Kampong Jerudong, unearthed four violations of Employment Order, 2009 – failure to provide annual leave; not providing sick leave; not providing adequate accommodation; and living quarters not meeting legal requirements.
Meanwhile, Operasi Siaga 71/2024 on April 2 at a shop in Kampong Jaya Setia uncovered five violations – failure to provide employment contract; not paying for overtime work; not giving leave on public holidays; not providing annual leave; and not giving sick leave.
Employers found violating the Employment Order, 2009 may be fined up to BND1,000 for each offences. Failure to settle the fine will result in a court case. – Fadley Faisal
