Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB) emerged winners of the Higher Learning Institutions (IPT) Futsal Invitation Tournament 2022 in conjunction with Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) Convocation Festival 2023 at the UBD Sports Complex yesterday.
The religious institution topped the Student Category on goal difference after amassing 11 points. Hosts UBD finished with the same number of points, but an inferior goal difference meant that they had to settle for a runners-up finish.
Politeknik Brunei (PB) claimed third place in the six-team table, two points adrift of the top.
Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) sat fourth while Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) and Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), finished in fifth and sixth places.
Meanwhile in the Staff Category, UBD emerged winners after accumulating 13 points in five games.
The unbeaten hosts managed a crucial 1-0 win against UNISSA to ensure the title, with the latter taking the runners-up spot.
Ministry of Education (MoE) HQ claimed third place. KUPU SB came fourth followed by UTB in fifth place and IBTE in sixth place.
In the Student Category, UBD’s Abu Sufian bin Haji Adanan won the Best Player award while Md Aminuddin Shah bin Haji Osman of KUPU SB scooped the Top Scorer award.
In the Staff Category, UBD’s Ahmad Hafiz bin Said was named Best Player while teammate Muhd Nur’Naqiuddin bin Haji Osman walked away with the Top Scorer award.
Meanwhile, Noramele bin Haji Yussof from UBD won the Veteran Best Player award, and MoE HQ’s Haji Ishak bin Haji Ahmad collecting the Veteran Top Scorer award.
UBD Vice-Chancellor Dr Hazri bin Haji Kifle presented the prizes.
The tournament, which also hosted matches on October 28 and November 4, was organised by the Student Activity and Development Unit, Student Affairs Section, UBD.
