Representatives from Koperasi Ikatan Teluk Mewah (ITM) Bhd presented the cooperative’s business zakat to the Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) on Wednesday, during a courtesy call with Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman.
ITM Chairman Haji Metussin bin Haji Ibrahim, presented the cooperative’s business zakat for financial year 2021, 2022 and 2023 to the minister, who is the president of MUIB.
Also present at the handover were Acting MUIB Secretary Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sabtu; Zakat, Waqaf and Baitulmal Management Department Acting Director Pengiran Dr Haji Amiruddin bin Pengiran Haji Damit and ITM members.
MUIB is the highest Islamic religious body in the country with the authority in management and handling collection and distribution of Zakat on the grounds of legal provisions policy as stated in the Islamic Religious Council and Kadi Courts Act Chapter 77, Amendment 1984 through chapters 114 to 121 and Zakat and Fitrah Regulations 1969. – Lyna Mohamad
