Team Young Innovative Leaders with their Kinetic Tiles emerged as the champions in the 2nd TVET Entrepreneurship and Innovation Challenge, walking away with a BND300 cash prize and gold medals.
Team Bunga’s Thifting app and Team Titan’s Hijau Points came in second and third. Team Bunga was awarded a BND200 cash prize and silver medals while Team Titans won BND100 and bronze medals.
Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) Acting Principal of Central Campus Armi Durani bin Haji Durhman, the guest of honour, presented prizes to the winners during the closing ceremony of the challenge at the IBTE Learning Advancement and Innovation Hub (LEAD-IN Hub) on Monday.
The hackathon-style event was designed to inspire innovation and collaboration among IBTE students.
It was organised by IBTE’s School of Business and brought together students from various disciplines to develop innovative solutions addressing sustainability challenges.
The challenge was to empower students with entrepreneurial and innovation skills to equip them with skills necessary for success in a dynamic economy.
Themed ‘Sustainability and Innovation in TVET,’ it aligns with global and regional sustainability goals, ensuring students contribute meaningfully to 21st-Century challenges where participants will gain hands-on experience in problem-solving, creative thinking, and prototype development.
Throughout the week of innovation and collaboration, the challenge featured workshops, mentorship sessions and culminated with a final pitching session, where students presented ideas and prototypes to a panel of industry experts and judges.
Eight IBTE schools participated in this year’s challenge, School of Information and Communications Technology, School of Business, School of Aviation, School of Agro-Technology and Applied Sciences, School of Building Technology Services, School of Hospitality and Tourism, School of Energy and Engineering Central and School of Energy and Engineering Satellite. – Lyna Mohamad
