Kids athletics festival winners crowned

Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (YSHHB) Primary School emerged as the overall champion at the Primary School Kids Athletics Festival 2024 for Cluster 4, held at the Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (FABD) field yesterday.

Sengkurong Primary School was placed second, while Katok ‘B’ Primary School finished in third.

The festival featured four events: formula bends, backward overhead throw, hurdles relay, and three steps bound. The Cluster 4 festival, saw the participation of 235 students representing 18 primary schools.

In the male category, YSHHB Primary School claimed first place, followed by Sengkurong Primary School and Katok ‘B’ Primary School.

Meanwhile, in the female category, YSHHB Primary School also won first place, while Katok ‘B’ Primary School secured second and St Andrew’s Primary School in third.

Senior special duties officer of the Department of Schools, at the Ministry of Education (MoE) Haji Metussin bin Haji Jais, the guest of honour, presented the awards to the winners. The festival covered all six clusters, starting with Cluster 1 on May 12, followed by Cluster 2 on May 26, Cluster 3 on June 9, and Cluster 6 on August 31.

The festival aimed to introduce suitable sporting activities for physical development, stimulate children’s growth and foster interest in athletic pursuit.

It also sought to promote a balanced and healthy lifestyle while incorporating elements of fun.

The event was organised by the Physical and Recreation Division of the Department of Co-Curriculum Education at the MoE. – Rokiah Mahmud
