In conjunction with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s birthday celebration, the Piala Keputeraan Futsal Championship 2022 will be held every Sunday from August 28 to September 11, 2022, at the Indoor Hall of the Universiti Brunei Darussalam Sports Complex.

A manager’s meeting and a draw to determine the grouping of the teams was held at the Brunei-Muara District Office last night.

A total of 28 teams divided into seven groups of four will be taking part in the meet. The top two teams from each group and the two best-placed teams who finish third will advance to the second stage of the competition.

Keputeraan Futsal Committee 2022 Co-Chairman Rosdin bin Haji Abdul Aziz attended the event alongside Co-Chairmen of the competition Stanley Lim Hock Ghim and Firoz Khan Namroz Khan.

Rosdin told the Bulletin, “With the tournament held every two years, people are looking forward to see the futsal teams. We had planned to hold it in 2020, but COVID happened.”

Stanley said, “This tournament provides an opportunity to support local sportsmen and encourage them to strengthen closer ties among the futsal community.”

The competition’s co-chairman also called for participants to respect the rules of the referee.

As part of the manager’s meeting, futsal representatives also heard a briefing conducted by the Referees’ Committee.

The tournament will be organised by the Keputeraan Futsal Committee 2022, with the support of the Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (FABD).

The popular futsal meet was last held in 2018, when Almerez were crowned champions. It was not held in 2020 due to the pandemic.
