Despite the rain, more than 200 runners completed the Transformation Run (Larian Transformasi) held in conjunction with the 53rd anniversary of renaming of Bandar Brunei to Bandar Seri Begawan and the Prisons Department’s 69th anniversary.
Minister of Home Affairs Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman was the guest of honour at the event at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien.
Ruzaini finished first in the male 10-kilometre (km) open category with a time of 34.40 while second place went to Muhammad Amirul Hamdi bin Jamil with a time of 35.12.
Hulubalang Asgar Abdul Malik bin Hidup was third with 35.29.
In the female 10km open category, Tho Sian Khim emerged as champion with a time of 42.23 while second place went to Siti Nur Amirah with a time of 49.23, followed by Azee Aisy with 56.54.
Meanwhile, Sefli Ahar won the male veteran 5km category with a time of 19.02 followed by Haji Juplic bin Haji Pangis in second place with a time of 19.52. Abdul Ghani bin Mirusin claimed third place with a time of 22.27.
The female veteran 5km category saw Linda Chin finishing first with a time 23.28 while Erin Liam finished second with a time of 23.41 and Cecilia Maksimon third with 25.40.
The participants in the 2.5km fun run also received finisher medals.
The minister, who presented prizes to the winners in each category, also joined a cycling activity with senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, and visited a ‘One Village One Product’ exhibition. There were also exhibitions set up by Rakan Seliaan of the Prisons Department, Insaf products and the Aftercare Support Association (AFSA). Earlier, there were a mass Subuh prayer and a reglious talk on ‘Kesedaran Masyarakat Membina Ukhwah’ by Fariszal bin Ali, an assistant counsellor from the Prisons Department at Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque. – James Kon
