Brunei Darussalam, along with Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand have jointly submitted multinational nomination of kebaya to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) under the category of representative List of The Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity for 2023.
All nations involved in the submission agreed to nominate kebaya for the UNESCO list after considering its common heritage practised in Southeast Asian countries, which encourages cross-cultural understanding.
