A family of three embraced the Islamic faith in a conversion ceremony at a residence in RPN Kampong Panaga, Belait District yesterday.
Felipe Balik Porciuncula, a 28-year-old man of Filipino descent, recited the Syahadah and adopting his new Muslim name of Muhammad Felipe Balik bin Abdullah Porciuncula @ Felipe Balik Porciuncula.
Witnessing their son embracing the Islamic faith, Filipino Francisco Domingo Porciuncula, 61, and Fatimah anak Balik, 57, of Iban ethnicity also embraced the Islamic faith.
They are now known as Francisco D Porciuncula bin Abdullah @ Francisco Domingo Porciuncula and Fatimah binti Abdullah Balik @ Fatimah anak Balik.
Fatimah shared that she had always been involved with Islam as some of her close family and friends have embraced the religion.
“We always pray that my husband and I will open our hearts to Islam. It was not until today, having witnessed our son’s conversion, that we too became content and decided to embrace Islam at the height of the moment,” she said.
Acting Penghulu of Mukim Seria Haji Saidin bin Haji Ibrahim, the guest of honour, and Head of the Dakwah Unit in the Belait District Muskrisman Safari bin Haji Mustapa witnessed the ceremony.
The Dakwah Unit in the Belait District has recorded 50 individuals embracing the Islamic faith this year. – Daniel Lim
