The beachside near the Silver Jubilee Recreational Park was alight with joy as bright lights shone on fun and exciting performances and activities as part of the Pesta Taman Jubli Kuala Belait.
The festival, which began on October 3, was organised by the Mukim Kuala Belait, in collaboration with the Village Consultative Councils of Kampong Pekan Belait, Pandan ‘A’, Pandan ‘B’, Pandan ‘C’, Pandan ‘F’, Mumong ‘A’, Mumong ‘C’ and Sungai Teraban. The initiative aimed to enliven weekends in the mukim.
The festival saw more than 40 vendors and stalls set up by local entrepreneurs and businesses, along with nightly performances.
Legislative Council member and Village Head of Kampong Bukit Sawat Yang Berhormat Mohammad bin Abdullah @ Lim Swee Ann officiated the festival on October 4.
Penghulu of Mukim Belait Haji Abdul Afiq bin Zainuddin, and village heads from across Mukim Belait were welcomed by Village Head of Kampong Pandan ‘B’ Muhammad Rawiyani bin Morney during the opening ceremony.
“The festival provides an opportunity to promote small local businesses from the district while also being a lively atmosphere for residents to enjoy the weekend at,” said Muhammad Rawiyani.
“It also aims to highlight the potential in laying the foundation for the scenic Silver Jubilee Recreational Park to be a location where more events and activities can be hosted in the future.”
Despite the slight drizzle during the opening ceremony where the guest of honour revealed the festival’s banner, the event shined bright as residents from across the district enjoyed an array of food and drinks to the tune of music performed by local band Melodia.
Other activities featured included a stage performance by Chung Hua Middle School Kuala Belait students as they delivered a story to highlight the importance of keeping the environment and ocean clean. – Daniel Lim
