Kasuka set sights on league, cup double in FA Cup tie

Kasuka FC will begin their quest for a league and cup double when they face MS PPDB in the opening Group ‘A’ match of the Brunei FA Cup 2025 at the Berakas Sports Complex tomorrow.

Fresh from retaining the Brunei Super League (BSL) title earlier this month, the back-to-back league winners will be setting their sights to become the first team to achieve the double since MS ABDB in 2016.

The police outfit will also be looking to secure qualification in the three-team group with district league side Dagang FT joining the two top flight sides.

The opening fixture of this edition’s FA Cup will also witness inaugural winners Wijaya face Panchor Murai in Group ‘B’ at the Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex tomorrow.

Indera SC, who won the tournament in the 2017-2018 edition following a 2-0 victory over MS PPDB in the final, complete the group.

Reigning Brunei FA Cup holders DPMM FC will begin their title defence against seven-time and record winners MS ABDB in a mouth-watering Group ‘D’ match next Wednesday.

District league outfit PKT FT, who complete the group, have a major task of keeping the two heavyweights quiet.

Meanwhile, Group ‘C’ comprises 2018-2019 winners Kota Ranger, KB and Rimba Star, making it perhaps the most competitive group in the group stage. The top two teams from each group will advance to the knock-out phase with a two-legged quarterfinal scheduled to commence on April 18.

The two-legged semi-finals will be played on May 3 and May 10 followed by the third place playoff on May 16 and the highly-anticipated final on May 18 at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium.

The country’s premier cup competition features 12 teams this year, with 10 from BSL and two district league sides Dagang FT and PKT FT.

The competition was previously held in 2022 when DPMM FC – with players who compete in the Singapore Premier League (SPL) – beat Kasuka 2-1 in the final to win their second Brunei FA Cup title. – Fadhil Yunus
