Kasuka FC has stepped up efforts to combat racism and discrimination after releasing a post on their official Instagram account and other social media channels.
The local football club became the first in the field to undertake social responsibility in addressing the agenda that has been prevalent following events of vile abuse and chanting among supporters.
The post reads ‘Say No To Racism: ‘We Are All the Same’ in a message of staunch support and solidarity of tackling and eradicating racism in football and in general.
It also shows a person holding what appears to be a mask with the message ‘We Need A Change’ along with a hashtag ‘Football Connecting People’.
The move earned the commendation of Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (FABD) President Pengiran Haji Matusin bin Pengiran Haji Matasan.
The president said social media is a good platform to educate the public.
He added he is happy that Kasuka FC has taken the initiative make their stand on this important matter.
This year’s Brunei Super League (BSL) has seen a rapid rise in foreign players attributed by eight participating clubs.
“As Brunei football clubs are increasingly employing foreign players to participate in the BSL, we must be much more open-minded and reject all racism and discrimination- both on and off the field.”
The president also highlighted the issue of abuse towards the referee in matches adding that it is a ‘personal attack’ which should be avoided.
He reiterated the need to behave in football pitches as children who attends games may be influenced by such actions and behaviour.
“Football is universally, and deservedly, known as ‘the beautiful game’. But even the most beautiful of things may have some ugly defects,” he said, adding that working together can stamp out racism and discrimination of all shapes and forms.
