Karting championship returns this weekend

The AZ Karting Championship returns for its second of its five-round series this year at Jerudong Park Go Kart Track on June 29 and 30.

Twenty-seven drivers across four categories will compete in the event, including the debut of the Cadet Cup for drivers ages eight to 11. The Rookie Juniors (ages 11 to 18) and the Rookie Senior Championship (ages 18 and above) will continue with their second round, featuring several new competitors.

The highlight of the event will be the Apex Karting Championship, also known as the Apex Cup.

Haziq Kasyful aims to secure his second consecutive win, while Ashwin Rana and Faadzil Aziz Haji Besar, who were runners-up in the previous round, will vie for their first victory of the season.

Shopian Said, last year’s inaugural Rookie Cup Karting Championship winner, will make his debut in the Apex Cup after missing the first round.

The event will kick off on Saturday with practice sessions and qualifying rounds, while the main races will begin on Sunday at 9am, with the final races scheduled for 1.30pm.
